150 years ago today the Civil War began with Confederate forces attacking a U.S. military installation at Fort Sumter in South Carolina. Abraham Lincoln had been President for a little over one month (took office March 4, 1861) and when all was said and done more than 600,000 soldiers died during the conflict. I lived in Georgia for a six-month period back in 2001 to go through a Navy training command. The group of guys I lived with said more than once that had it not been for the will of God the South would have won the war. It's been 150 years but emotions still run strong and very close to the surface.
