First of all... don't judge me for the terrible pictures I'm posting of myself. I'll tell you what... contractions HURT!!! So here is the story, from my point of view. Saturday morning, October 1st, I started having contractions. They were pretty short and not consistent so I didn't time them and we went about our day. We went to Michael's friend's house to watch the first session of General Conference. Then we went up to my parents' house to finish out the weekend. After the last session on Sunday (about 4pm) I called my sister-in-law Tina to talk to her about my contractions. She told me they need to be about a minute long and every five minutes for at least an hour for me to go to the hospital. Well they hadn't been a minute long and they were still inconsistent. My mom was laughing at me the whole weekend... probably because she knew I wasn't even close to the hardest part. As we were leaving her house, around 6:30pm, she told me she thought I would be heading to the hospital that night. Oh boy did that scare me!
When we got home we got the stopwatch out. The contractions picked up. We were only home for an hour before we left for the hospital. When we got there they told me I was dilated to a 4 or 5! That means I wasn't going to be sent home. I then proceeded to ask for an epidural. As soon as I got it, about a half hour after we got to the hospital, the pain went away!
Here I am just resting (I realize not looking good):

After I was dilated to a 10 and had waited for a little bit (about 6:30, Monday morning) they told me it was time to start pushing. Soon after I started pushing they told me Jonathan had had a bowl movement so there was a good chance he had swallowed some meconium. Because of this they would take him away as soon as he came out to get his lungs suctioned out so he wouldn't have that nastiness in him. It took them a little bit for him to get his first breath and breathe on his own. It was a little scary for a couple minutes. They decided to take him to the NICU to check him out and give him some fluids. I guess he also had low blood sugar. I told Michael to go with him. Here are some pictures he took:

And here he is after he got out (he was only in there about an hour). Sadly when he was all stabilized I still wasn't. I apparently was having a problem with bleeding. I didn't know any different, but I'll tell you what.. any of you that have had a "fundal massage"... that ain't no massage. It HURT!

Another very sweet picture of me. They told me I lost about 2 liters of blood. That isn't good. They had a perfect match for my blood type waiting for the doctors to request a blood transfusion. It turned out I didn't need one, but it sure was a scare for Michael.

I think that is all for the labor story. Enjoy the rest of the posts and pictures! :)
