Dad's good!

For my mom's birthday yesterday my dad planned a dinner with all of us kids who live here in Utah. We went to the Roof, on the top floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. None of us had ever been there. We all met up and drove in together. It was Celeste, Jerusha, Niki, me, Michael and Alex. I had talked to Mackenzie earlier in the week and she asked what we were doing for my mom's birthday. I felt bad telling her because I knew she couldn't come. I'm sure she understood though.
Well, to our surprise, my dad flew in Tyson, Tina, and Mackenzie (Spencer could have come to, but he had to work). Of course it was to make my mom's 60th birthday special and a surprise, but we all enjoyed it just as much. We had so much fun!!! I love being with family!

Happy Birthday Mom!!!

One year older and wiser too...

This morning as soon as my alarm went off Michael and I called to wish my dad a happy birthday. My dad recently starting running again and told me that he ran 8 miles on Saturday! I was so proud of him, so I told Michael about it. Well this morning my very clever husband asked my dad if he was planning, today, on running a mile for every year he has been alive. Haha... 58 miles. Good luck dad.

Another funny moment was on Saturday night. I had gone up to Salt Lake to have dinner with some of my friends from high school. When we finished I went up to my parents' house and planned to spend the night up there since Michael was working all night. My mom, three sisters, and I were watching the Olympics. When my dad got home one of my sisters asked him what he wanted for his upcoming birthday. His maybe too quick of a response was, "I want three weddings." Jerusha immediately picked up the phone to make a phone call. When the person picked up this is what we all heard, "Alex (my youngest brother), for dad's birthday he wants you to get married." hahaha. I love my family!

Thank You Al and Shawnie!!!

Guess who has tickets?!?!

When I heard that U2 was coming to Salt Lake City I casually mentioned it to Michael and I quickly found out that one of his top two must dos before he dies is go to a U2 concert. He wanted to get tickets soooooo bad. I talked to my aunt Alyson who works at the U to see if she could get any inside deals. She found out that Crimson Club members could get up to 4 tickets at a presale that started today at 3pm. Alyson's very good friend Shawnie is a Crimson Club member (there is one good thing about that, I guess). :) They took it upon themselves to ensure we got tickets. And they did just that! Thank you Al and Shawnie!!! We love you!!!

Skate Your Heart Out!

Tonight is the big lacrosse fundraiser. If you live close enough come on over to Classic Skating. I plan to dress in some 80's clothes I found as I was cleaning last night. It is always a lot of fun. The only problem I am facing is that my bedtime is somewhere between 8:30 and 10pm... skating doesn't even start until 10pm! Oh, man, I'll be tired. :)

Goodbye

This morning I deactivated my facebook account. I realized that I really was not using it to network, but only used it to help pass time at work. It was a big waste of time, so today I say goodbye to facebook.

On an unrelated note, next Saturday (that's right, not this Saturday, but next) is the BYU v. New Mexico men's basketball game here at the MC. Yesterday I was walking around the concourse and noticed three tents. THREE TENTS! These students really need to get a life!

Valentine's Day

This is just a little message a wrote in the sand. The lacrosse team enjoyed a beautiful day at the beach.
Here's what I came home to, after a four day weekend in CA. I love you Michael. Thank you very much!!

I gave Michael a couple "Car Talk" cds. For those of you who have never heard of "Car Talk" it is a very funny radio talk show... and it's educational. Fun times.

Gratitutde

I am really grateful that both Michael and I have jobs. It is hard that he works nights, but I do my best to stay positive. Tonight we get to spend only a couple of hours together before he goes to work. I may not get any more time with him until Monday. I am grateful that I coach lacrosse. I will miss him!

Tuesday Lunch!

Today is Tuesday lunch day with my brother Alex. He works at the devotionals here at the Marriott Center on Tuesdays which conveniently end at lunchtime. For the last month, since this semester started, he takes me to lunch at the Cannon Center on campus. Yumm. A couple of weeks ago Suzanne started joining us. We have some fun times at the Cannon Center, reminds me of when I was a freshman here at BYU going to the Morris Center for meals with my friends. Oh, the great memories of the Morris Center.
Gotta love free food! Sadly, his meal plan is going to run out next month. That will be a sad day. :)

Happy 26th girl! We hope you get some cake and family time too! We love you!

The Surprise Master

Be it known to all who read this post that I, Michael, am good at surprising my wife! So, I got off work a little after 8a Friday morning but realized I needed to do some food shopping to make dinner for Oriah when she got done with work at 5p. She's been after me to make my Mother's spaghetti for a while now so I thought I'd meet her request for our surprise date night. I finished up with shopping and got home a little after 9a and went straight to bed.

I set my alarm for 2p but didn't hear the alarm until 2:30p...I was that tired. Got up, showered, ran to the store for one last ingredient I didn't see earlier and then started making "pasketti." Usually I text Oriah when I wake up but today I refrained to conceal my exact on-goings and I also took myself offline while I was on the computer so she wouldn't see that I was up. I texted her around 4:30p letting her know that I was "awake," which was true :) She left work a bit before 5p and things had timed up well.

She walked through the door and to her surprise......dinner was ready!!! Man, I got her good :) We ate and then I told her that we had places to be. Now, for some background, our first date was February 6th, 2009. That night I took her to campus and to the Planetarium, the Museum of Art and then to the Creamery on 9th. Fast forward to Friday night, as we drove up 7th East in Provo she asked me if I was taking her on our first date. "Yep!" I responded. And, she didn't see that coming either :) Man, I'm good. Real good!

We got to the Planetarium and they were showing the same show that they did a year ago. The only difference was that I fell asleep as soon as the lights went out. Oops :) Then we went to the MOA and they were closed, for some reason, unlike last year. And then we went to the Creamery where we did successfully have ice cream.

On the way home, we stopped by Walgreen's to pick up a Red Box movie. We got "The Soloist." Strange movie. I don't recommend it. And that was our surprise date night this month! Overall, I'd give myself a B+. I'd have gotten an A by staying awake during the Planetarium show :)

The Hunger Games

I started reading this book today. For those of you who don't know, I am not really a reader. I have a hard time just picking up a book and wanting to keep reading it. Well this one has caught my attention. I'm already on page 163. Wow! So far, I would recommend it.

Pink!

Saturday night was the big BYU v. Utah rivalry game! BYU was one of four teams chosen by Nike to wear pink for the annual coaches vs. cancer awareness week.
We got there plenty early so we went to visit my brother who was working at the game. (Not sure why I look so good in that picture, but ladies... this man is SINGLE and AVAILABLE.)

Next, we went down to the floor and got some pictures.

JIMMER!!!

And me, supporting my Cougs (with matching pink shoes, of course)!!

For those of you who didn't hear, BYU was victorious, but not without the Utes putting up a fight there at that end. Great game, very fun to watch.
